Gothic 3 is far from careful when it comes to utilizing your hardware resources. To make sure the CSP runs smoothly on as many devices as possible without overloading your memory, we take a number of steps—many of which we’ve shown you before. Today, we’ve got another example that’s especially interesting for the tech enthusiasts among you.
To change skin colors for armor quickly and efficiently, without wasting tons of memory on textures, we’ve switched to using MaterialSwitch.
To make this work, skin and clothing need to be separated from each other. Achieving this required numerous adjustments to the textures, and we’ve also removed skin textures that aren’t used in the CSP.
And as you can see in these awesome group shots, the results speak for themselves: Less memory usage, no drop in quality.
